Lawn Seeding

Seeding lawns is a more economical alternative to sod. There are a few different ways it’s done.

Methods of Seeding lawns:

Clear, Rake, Hand Spread, Cover, Water (For homeowners with min tools or small areas):

  1. Clear the area to just dirt. Lawns cannot be planted on top of a previous lawn.
  2. Scarify soil with a thatch rake to loosen top layers of soil
  3. Spread seed out by hand like shaking out pepper or salt on a dish. Not too much, not too little and even distribution.
  4. spread a loose layer of dirt on the seeds.
  5. water and keep the earth moist (not wet) until seedlings are adults

Clear, Power Rake, Machine Spread, Cover, Water (good for medium sized seed jobs):

  1. Clear ground to just dirt. Lawns cannot be planted on top of a previous lawn.
  2. Scarify soil with a power rake to loosen top layers of soil
  3. Spread seed out like shaking out pepper or salt on a dish. Not too much, not too little and even distribution.
  4. spread a loose layer of dirt on the seeds.
  5. water and keep the earth moist (not wet) until seedlings are adults

Clear, use power seeder attachment on power rake,  Water (BEST FOR LARGE SEEDING AREAS):

  1. Clear ground to just dirt. Lawns cannot be planted on top of a previous lawn.
  2. Use a power seeder attachment on power rake to spread seed out. this machine cuts the dirt open and inserts seed to a desirable depth..
  3. water and keep the earth moist (not wet) until seedlings are adults

Clear, spread using hydroseeding (for seriously huge areas and sides of highways for erosion control)

  1. Clear ground to just dirt.
  2. Use hydroseed machine with seed suspended in moisture locking gel with dye. this is then sprayed onto soil until evenly covered

New Lawns

Lawns set an outdoor living area to entertain guests and enjoy, and are a great way to bring additional value to a home. There are two ways to get a new lawn. One could sod, or seed. the methods for sod are straightforward but seed application methods vary in methodology.

New Lawns are best done in spring or fall with irrigation installed to maintain the soil moisture with minimum hassle. This is because new seedlings or newly transplanted lawns need more babying until adequate roots are developed. So this means soil will need to remain moist and never wet. if the site is wet, this could lead to lawn dying off from fungus due to low oxygen in the soil and too much humidity.

3 things you need to know about requesting your landscape design

  1. You need to get an idea of what your type of project will cost so you know how to budget. Give me a call and we could go over some budget amounts so you know what is covered at each budget level.
  2. If the normal budget ranges sound good, then we could go ahead and get the desired start date from you and schedule a proposal.
  3. Next, we’ll explain the payment process with our installation projects. Here are some details: we’ll take the initial deposit to start the proposal and the amount will be added to the budget for the project. 50% is due on or before the first day of work and the remaining on the last day. If there’s work found to be done during the in-person last tour of the finished work for quality and adjustments, the client may retain and hold 10% of the final amount until completion.
